Print Making

SELF EVALUATION

1.     Describe the overall composition of your artwork (balance, unity, rhythm and movement).
in my artwork, you can tell the difference between the object and its background. i used different thicknesses for the lines. the background grasses have smaller lines, while the main body of the tiger has thicker larger lines. there was plenty of balance between the black and white. you can also see the movement of the background how the grass and plants move in the wind.

2.     How did you add texture and contrast to your print? Is this important? Why?
i have more color (orange ink) in the background. i did that in order to balance the black and orange of the tiger. the different line thicknesses added texture to the print.
3.     Explain how you used positive and negative space to show your image.
i reversed the the colors in the print. the orange stripes on the tiger are actually what would  actually be black on a real tiger. in order to keep the colors balanced, i cut out the grasses in the background and had the orange be the unfilled space.
4.     Describe the craftsmanship of your print. (How good the project is technically crafted)
the print actually wasnt very good. i sometimes had too much or too little ink, and it was messy. too much ink messed up the lines of the tiger, so you cant tell where they end, and they were sort of smuged together. but at least i can still tell the difference between the object and the background.
5.     Were you able to achieve depth by showing a foreground, middle ground and back- ground? Explain.
i had a foreground, which was the tiger, then you can tell what the back-ground is because it is further off from the tiger. it was difficult to try to put in a middle ground, so i didnt do that.
6.     Explain your experience with Printmaking. What were the obstacles and advantages?
my experience with printmaking could have been better. i didnt have the best print, and it was difficult to cut out all of the little lines in the tiger's body. it took up a lot more time than what i would have wanted it to.

Print Sketch

Print Sketch Critique

1. Why is texture so important to have in your sketches?
In order to make the sketch seem real, you need texture so the animal contrasts from the background. the texture is important because it must show the lines and shapes. texture distinguishess the objects in the picture. it makes the picture look more 3D, instead of flat. the animal shouldnt blend into the background.

2. Why is it neccessary for you to have several references of each animal and each background? Explain.
because when you are drawing them, there are different ways to look at them. you have to be able to choose the right background for the way the animal is positioned or how it looks. having several references is better than having just one or two. each different view helps you draw the animal and background.

3. When you look at your sketches are you able to see which sketch is the strongest and will make the best print? How do you know this?
yes. The one with the most texture and detail will make the best print. The print is only a portion of the sketch, but it is important to but alot of effort into it all. my lionfish, as shown above, will most likely make the best print. I put the most effort and detail into it, even though it was one of the hardest of my sketches.

Chalk Mural Critique

1. Explain your experience working on a team and executing your ideas for the mural.
The chalk mural was very interseting project. It was fun to be able  to work with other people, becasue it would have been very difficult to do this on my own. we all worked together. we listened to each others ideas and helped each other out. everyone put alot of effort into these murals, and they turned out really well.
2. Explain the importance of collaboration when working on a team.
we all have to listen to each other's ideas, because its not just one person's idea. Each person added to mural. Morgan, Sydney O. and I worked on the background, while Heather and Sydney shaped the wings and added color. Sometimes we made a mistake with the color or background, but we were able to fix it and get back to finishing.
3.  How successful was this project? Explain how and why.
I think this project was successful, but i wouldnt do it again. It took alot of time, and it was messy. one day we had alot of rain and it washed away a few of the murals, so that made several groups have to start their's over again. I did enjoy it, but it was nice just to try it once. The amount of wall everyone used also used up all the chalk.
4. Explain how you feel about creating artwork that others can interact with. Ex. Invoving the whole school?
I thought it was fun to do some of the interactive artwork. At times, some of the poses look real. people had fun taking pictures and posing. It made me feel good that people could interact with my artwork other than just looking at it, and i think interactive art work left more of an impression.
