Stencils

 Stencil
The stencil project was one of the hardest for me. My stencil is a spary paint of the Titanic. We first took pictures off the internet of what we wanted, then we edited them in photoshop to use the black and white space. We then printed them out, and took pictures of the print. Using the projectors, we projected the picture onto a board while we traced the print on a large piece of paper. After that, we used xacto knifes and cut out the stencil from the poster paper. Meanwhile, we took paper and pieces from magazines and glued them onto our final paper. We spray painted the background to go with the colors of our sprayed on stencils. after cutting out the final stencil, we spray painted it onto the background and let it dry. This picture above was my final result.
I choose blue for my background (with orange around the edges) because the blue relates to the water and titanic. My original stencil was sprayed on black, but then I sprayed orange over it and around the edges of the background to give it color.
The paper, pictures and magazine pieces added texture and were relevant to the subject you were doing.
The exacto knife was difficult to use at times, because you had to cut with a board under your stencil to protect the tables and other surfaces. also, several people were not carefull and ended up cutting themselves. it is very important to be careful and follow the right saftey procedures when using the knife. It is very important to cut away from you and use short strokes when cutting.
my experience with the spray paint went all right. my background turned out alright, but the actual ship spray paint did not turn out exactly how i wanted it to. The orange spray paint went on before the black was completly dry, and resulted in a brownish orange final color. Also, the second time i sprayed on the stencil, i didnt line it up completly. which resulted in the stencil being off centered .
overall, this was a hard project, but i feel now i know how to do it i could do better a second time.
